THINGS TO KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR IN 2019-2020

As the ITC season opens it's doors, and turns to a new decade, there are some things to watch. In no particular order....

CHASING HEATLEY- Dany Heatley retired as the ITC's All-Time leading goal scorer, and only 500+ goal scorer with 513. The big question is, does Vancouver's Rick Nash have 39 goal season in him, to surpass Heater? Just 3 seasons ago, he did notch exactly that many, the third most in his career in one season. He's slipped to 34 and 33 since that season in Philly. Chances are he'll do it... but likely early in the 2020-21 season.

500 WATCH With Nash needing 25 goals to get there, it's likely that the future ITC Hall Of Famer will be the 2nd to achieve this goal in ITCs history. Next up? Eric Staal, who had 43 goal season last year. Duplicating that feat will check the 34 year old right at 500. Alexander Ovechkin would need a career high 39 goals to get to 500 this year.

'TIS BETTER TO GIVE....- Alexander Ovechkin is likely to pass Henrik Sedin in all time assists for a career, maybe by the all star break. Ovie comes in with 613, while Sedin is at 646. Erik Staal and Sidney Crosby are farther back on the list, and would require huge years to get past Sedin, or Ovechkin for that matter.

POINT TAKEN- Ovechkin is going to pass Dany Heatly for most points, it's just a matter of how fast. Trailing him by only 43, the last time Ovie had a season below that was his rookie and sophomore seasons. Eric Staal will probably pass Heater as well, as these two ITC superstars will take the top spot in the leagues history.

60? Jeremy Plantinga set the single season goals mark in '16-17 with 58. Nobody's had 50 in the previous 2 years. Shows how good the marker set by Plantinga was, and shows how difficult it is to score in the iTC. Last year's leader was Patrick Masley with 47.

YOU CAN'T CATCH ME That's what retired winger Pavol Demitra is saying, for a 10th consecutive season, with the ITC single season scoring record of 117 points. He set the mark in 2008-2009 and only 2 players have come within even 10 points of the record. Micheal Borg did it 2 seasons ago for Dallas, and Anthony Stewart got to 107 in '14-'15.

Some things to keep an eye on as the season progresses!

Patrik Masley? Seriously? Ugh.

Time to boost scoring, methinks.

I think scoring is just fine, the amount of points player get is somewhat realistic with what we see in the NHL now
