I'm glad that the general response to this has been positive and it's encouraging to see some GMs recognizing the need to create ideas that could bring new people into the League. I think it's a great point brought up earlier that the league can be very daunting for new GMs because it's so involved.
Somebody else brought up a good point (in this thread, I think) about participation points. I'm as guilty of this as the next person, but I hardly wrote any stories during the season and now I'm writing about one every other day or every three days to race to 50. Perhaps there needs to be an incentive in place to get people to write during the actual season. It could help foster activity and keep people around during the regular season.
Draft Idea for 2020

A lot of interesting ideas here. I still think a major problem with recruiting is finding people with good knowledge of hockey and computer skills combined. I know lots of guys with hockey knowledge who have no idea how to turn a computer on, and vice versa. I am pretty skilled with a computer and it took me a while to figure out (actually still figuring out) how EHM works.
It definitely takes 2 or 3 seasons to learn things, and a lot of guys drop out if they don't win right away.

Wanted to revive this thread a bit because a lot of good ideas were posted here. I also think Chicago's points are very valid. Maybe we could try to create incentives for new GMs to stick around.
Regarding the draft idea, for 2020, maybe what we could do is take some names from the last two real drafts, 2009 and 2010, and put them into the upcoming ITC draft. Another would be to take classic NHL names and put them into an upcoming draft. For instance, how cool would it be if you had a draft that included Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Billy Smith, etc.? Maybe that's playing a little too much with history, but it's something that's outside the box and could generate a little more interest. That is, after all, the ultimate goal.
If this general draft editing idea passes muster with the G7, I'd be willing to work on the players file to edit the names of the players... of course, if there's a PP or 3 involved

As a brand new GM, I think it would be really cool to start adding in players from the last few drafts (in real life), so that we can have a few "house hold" names in the league as they move up the ranks.
It's slightly overwhelming to start out as a new GM without knowing any of the players.
